How It Started

An entrepreneur from the very start, Al Gosling's first business venture was selling board shorts out of the back of his old, battered Renault 5 while studying for exams!

In 1995, at the age of 24, Al set up Extreme Entertainment with the goal of mixing sports with business, working with great people and having fun while making it happen. Running on a shoestring budget, from an office in a converted barn more akin to a mountain hut or surf-shack than the headquarters of a fast growing media company, Al rapidly agreed to a number of deals with producers and broadcasters to sell and distribute extreme and action sports television programmes all over the world.

In April 1998, Al created and launched the world’s first 24/7 TV channel dedicated to extreme sports, The Extreme Sports Channel, broadcasting worldwide via satellite to an underserved audience. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Since then Al and the team have taken the brand and developed it into drinks, shops, mobile phones, theme parks and clothing. This year, the group employs 247 people and is on target to reach €32m turnover.

Today, Al is still as passionate about The Extreme Group and extreme sports as he was when he first started out. He hopes to encourage young British sports enthusiasts and looks to help promote entrepreneurship to the next generation. When not in the office or in meetings you will find him either windsurfing, kite surfing, flying, off-piste skiing, ice climbing or sailing somewhere in the world.

The EX Stores Franchise

Due to the success of our new product ranges and Ex Raw State, our clothing label, we are launching EX Stores. Ex Stores will feature EX Raw State clothing, footwear, equipment, drinks and accessories - it will also include a number of up and coming guest brands which have been featured due to their innovative and young roots. We are looking for passionate people to help build and run these stores! The EX Stores are not just regular retail stores, but a lifestyle experience on the cutting edge of fashion. Competing with the average “boring - same brands” stores operating out there, Ex Stores focus on stocking unique clothes and a creating a cool atmosphere for people who want to wear something different.

Our Clothing Label: EX RawState

The EX RawState line encompasses an extensive fashion range, with everything from long coats to board shorts and safari jackets to snowboarding salopettes, incorporating everything from rucksacks and travel bags to scarves and hats. Even footwear is on the agenda!

These clothes combine designs inspired by extreme sports with a mix of urban/street. This range will revolutionise monotonous fashion trends, bringing a much-needed fresh look to the high streets, setting a creative standard for the rest of the sports fashion world.

The technical range consists of a lightweight, high - tech materials ensuring maximum comfort and performance. Whilst the range will uphold trendy and contemporary styles throughout, the utilisation of the most advanced technology will underpin its quality and appeal.

RawState is a sport fashion lifestyle brand borne from the world of extreme sports. A mainstream aspirational brand designed to be attainable, accessible and desirable to anyone who is passionate about youth culture, EX RawState represents freedom, passion and a desire to look sexy and feel comfortably cool.

The EX RawState range aims to supply this customer base with fashion that isn’t scared to be different, is individual but doesn’t shout about it and doesn’t ask.

What is a franchise?

A franchise is the grant of a license by one party (the Franchisor) to another (the Franchisee), which entitles the franchisee:

• 1. To operate a business format under the trademark and/or trade name of the Franchisor; and
• 2. To make use of an entire package of know-how, comprising all the information and practical support necessary to establish and operate the business format in accordance with the Franchisor’s brand image, values and standards.

Relationships

The working relationship and terms of business between Franchisor and Franchisee are governed by the franchise agreement entered into between the two parties at the outset.

Key components

A key component of the package of know-how is the Franchisor’s Operational Manual. This sets out the operational practices, which the Franchisee must follow and the standards, which the Franchisee must achieve and maintain in operating the franchise.

• Continued compliance with the terms of the franchise agreement, operational manuals and Extreme brand standards.
